Except we DO have Purple Martins in the area thanks to nest boxes put up
near the Bellingham waterfront. Also not mentioned - the once obscene
amount of poison spread by farmers has dropped way off since they've been
taught to use effective alternatives, but there are still one or two
dairymen who every once in a while will put out Starling bait like a
third-grader putting ketchup on a hot dog.
According to Bud Anderson, Starlings are great mimics and can even be
taught to talk. I spoke to one the other day in fact and he said that Bud
Anderson is a great mimic, too.
