Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 17. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 15 a subadult male REDSTART was in Brookings. On July 10 six BLACK
TURNSTONES were on the North Spit of Coos Bay. The MOCKINGBIRD continues to
be seen on the spit, and recently a female RUDDY DUCK with chicks were seen
there.

A BAIRD?S SANDPIPER was at the mouth of the Necanicum River at Gearhart July
15. An adult male and a female type CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD were at Saddle
Mountain State Park July 10.

The flock of 12 WHITE PELICANS continues to be seen on Sauvie Island. Over
300 CLIFF SWALLOWS were over Jackson Bottom in Hillsboro July 15. Flocks of
swallows are now being seen as the migration begins. On July 16 a small
flock of SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were among the many shorebirds at Baskett
Slough NWR. On July 10 a BLACK PHOEBE was near Brownsville.

On July 13 a TRICOLORED BLACKBIRD was at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A WHIMBREL
was there July 16.

A COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD is now coming to a feeder near Grants Pass. A male
BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD was seen during the week near Dale, along Hwy 395
south of Ukiah. A female with a possible juvenile is being reported from
Vale. On July 16 a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER and two SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS
were at Cold Springs NWR near Hermiston.
