This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for
Friday, July 18, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured birds are Black-billed Magpie and Broad-winged Hawk.

Sightings for Friday, July 18:
Two Sandhill Cranes were in cranberry fields just south of Derby Reach
Regional Park in Langley.

One Red-breasted Sapsucker was seen north of Lougheed Mall.

Thursday, July 17:
In a late report for Wednesday: at 8:00 in the evening a Black-billed
Magpie flew out of some conifers in the Van Dusen Gardens at 37th and
Oak in Vancouver and flew east in the direction of Queen Elizabeth
Park.

And in a late report for Friday, July 11: an immature Broad-winged
Hawk flew from the middle arm inside the airport to Swishwash Island
and should be looked for on Lulu or Iona and Sea Islands in Richmond.

Wednesday, July 16:
Two Turkey Vultures were at Serpentine Fen in Surrey.

Tuesday, July 15:
Two Marbled Godwits were at the compensation lagoon along the
Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty, and 2 Black Turnstones and a female Black
Scoter were off the end of the jetty.
