On a morning hike up Mt. Si, it was nice to hear something besides my
huffing and puffing and the pounding feet of trail runners. The hike
was graced by the songs of robins and Swainson's thrushes at low
elevation (first 1.5 miles); varied thrushes at the mid elevation
(miles 2-3), and hermit thrushes near the summit (miles 3-4).
Pacific-slope flycatchers were calling from two low elevation
locations. Also heard were a western tanager, red-breasted nuthatches,
winter wrens, black-capped and chestnut-backed chickadees.
