Gina Sheridan spotted a GREAT GRAY OWL in the Blue Mountains on July 17. The
bird was in a relatively small clearing about .2 miles up Devil's Backbone
Road off Forest Road 40. WA DeLorme Pg. 43, C-5.

Shorebirds are moving through and Craig Corder found a nice bunch at Cold
Springs NWR, Umatilla Co, OR, on July 16, that included a very vocal adult
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER. OR DeLorme 85, A-8

The Spokane Co, WA UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen again on July 8. Look for it
along Deno Road near the power substation west of the intersection of Deno
Road and Hayford Road. This bird is very stealthy and may require repeated
visits to locate. GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS are also in the area. Please stay on
the roads.

A male LESSER GOLDFINCH was near Kendrick, Latah Co ID along the bike trail
1 mile south of the jct of ID 99 and ID 3 on Jul 5 and may still be in the
area. In fact recent reports suggest this species is expanding into the area
and should be looked for along the Clearwater and Snake Rivers and
tributaries.
