Thursday, July 24, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with
stores in Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The featured bird is Broad-winged Hawk.

Sightings for Thursday, July 24:
A pair of Lazuli Buntings was seen in Maple Ridge at the 216th dyke
in the nursery at the blueberry patch.

A Turkey Vulture was seen northwest of Lougheed Mall.

Wednesday, July 23:
In a report for Tuesday, the immature Broad-winged Hawk was relocated
in Richmond at River Road and the Dunsmuir Bridge, and the bird was
later seen to fly towards the airport.

One Red Knot and the first juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper were seen at
Boundary Bay.

Turkey Vultures were seen over Campbell Valley Park and northwest of
Lougheed Mall.

Monday, July 21:
One Red-breasted Sapsucker and a Pileated Woodpecker were seen
northwest of Lougheed Mall.

Sunday, July 20:
Reifel had 3 Snow Geese, 2 Bank Swallows and 1 Trumpeter Swan.

Saturday, July 19:
The Willet in breeding plumage, now in its 7th year as a visitor to
our area, was seen at the base of the Tsawwassen ferry jetty.

The highlights of a VNHS trip up Cypress were: 5 Pine Grosbeaks, 2
White-winged Crossbills and 1 Western Kingbird that was behind the
meadow behind Yew Lake.

On a hike up Mount Cheam, near Chilliwack,1 hen White-tailed
Ptarmigan and 4 chicks were observed, as well as 30 Grey-crowned Rosy-
Finches.
