Not only should we be using these Alpha Codes but when you post the location
of a sighting you should use latitude and longitude instead of a location
name. Location names can change or go away. Also when posting reports we
should be using the scientific name rather than the common name of the
birds. Will save confusion later. Some consideration might be given to
reporting smaller birds before larger ones and possibly follow the standard
color wheel to maintain some order within the same size. I also think the
development of a secret handshake for use in the field would benefit us all.
A Petersens or Sibley in the back pocket and binoculars around the neck isn'
t good enough. I don't want to waste my time in the field talking to some
wanna-be-birder that will waste my time with common names and rambling bird
sightings with no thought as to size or color order. It's a hobby that many
of us use for relaxation and an escape from our working world and if people
aren't willing to put the time in then they shouldn't be out birding or
relaxing! No pain no gain. Without order there is chaos. Man the torpedos!
Smoke'em if ya got'em.
