.........................Saturday was nice--sunny--temp. 70 degrees. On
the ocean beach side--north of Oysterville Rs.--as the tide was coming
in, the shorebirds were plentiful. Zillions of SANDERLINGS --most in
varying degrees of breeding plumage; lots of SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS and
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS--many again still in breeding colors. 3 RUDDY
TURNSTONES in with the flocks, as well as significant numbers of
SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, and a smaller flock of WESTERN SANDPIPERS. Long
lines of BROWN PELICANSflew nortwards just of sore, and...some blackish
seabirds further out--may be COMMON MURRES. CALIFORNIA and WESTERN GULLS
along with a dozen or so CASPIAN TERNS were sitting on the beach--among
the multitudines remains of washed up crabs.
.......................Came late in the day to the Willapa Bay side as
the tide was just starting to go out. A WIMBREL was standing in an
island of grass, and 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS came and went.. Along with
more BROWN PELICANS. The late hour (8:15 pm); my stomach complaining for
its supper; and the hordes of mosquitos waining to dine on my tasty
arms, legs and face caused me to move on after the tide receeded 12-15
ft. and nothing else showed up.
.......................Sunday was lovely, but my well barbequed face
prevented me from taking much more than a short beach walk--nothing new
showed up--only humans and their kites.
.......................Went to Grass Lake on a side road north of
Cranberry Rd. to check on my OSPREY and her young on top of a tall Sitka
Spruce that I had observed Memorial Day weekent. Moma was still
there--1 juvenile OSPREY was restring in the nest, and the other
fledgeling was flying around through the trees behind..

......................Cheers
