Clarice and I were among the several folks up on Skyline Ridge Trail
above Paradise on Saturday. Thanks so much to the original tweets
who posted the location for the ptarmigan family. We ran into Alan
and Mike, and thanks to them for pointing out the three males just
east of Panorama Point (See Mike's report). We were hiking the trail
in a clockwise direction, so we continued east and easily spotted a
female and three chicks in the area previously reported. We then
continued clockwise and decided to hike down to Paradise in the
Golden Gate trail. That trail switchbacks steeply down a flower
meadow face, below Panorama Point. Just where it got flat again,
at the base of the switchbacks, is another meadow with a small
stream. We spotted another female with four chicks. A 12
Ptarmigan hike, and this was a life bird for both of us. Also saw
hoards of pipits in this lower meadow, some of them feeding young.

Thanks again to all for the directions and help in spotting these
birds. Makes this list worthwhile.
