I accidently deleted the previous post regarding the Remond Watershed
Preserve but it inspired me to go for a Sunday morning look around.

Our destination was the "Old Pond" trail. My husband and I had walked less
than a half mile up the Trillium Trail when we heard an ATV coming towards
us. We both agreed that an ATV was not appropriate for the area, when we
realized the vehicle was carrying a park ranger. The ranger stopped and
made chit chat about the Bewick's Wren we were watching, and then what he
said next kind of took the starch out of my stroll.......he warned us that
there had been numerous sightings of a young, male black bear at the Old
Pond, (not the pond at the parking lot) and that he had seen fresh signs of
it that morning. He went on to reassure us that it probably wasn't
dangerous, but it would be a good idea to make noise as we walked. My
husband was ready to keep walking, but I decided it wouldn't be much fun
anymore, having to listen for a bear on top of listening for the Red-eyed
Vireo, so we turned around and hiked the Powerline Trail instead.

Going west on the Powerline Trail and at the first bridge, there is an open
area where we saw Western Tanager, Pacific Slope Flycatcher, Wilson's
Warbler, Hairy Woodpecker along with the Song Sparrows, Cedar Waxwings and
robins, all while we leaned on the bridge railing. There was also a Spotted
Sandpiper and two kingfishers at the parking lot pond. Didn't see or hear
the Vireo, but still a very nice way to spend Sunday morning, if you aren't
afraid of black bears!
