A three-toed woodpecker (size of a hairy with barred back and primaries, yellow crown) was drumming on a snag about 50 yds north of the outhouse at the Summerland camping site in Mt Rainier national park on Saturday. I don't know how uncommon these are but it's been a while since I last saw one. Summerland is a beautiful 4 mile hike from the Frying Pan Creek trailhead near the White River entrance to the park. I also saw several gray-crowned rosy finches a mile or so farther up the trail beyond Summerland.
