Hey Tweeters, I'm back from an extended vacation in WI. Went this afternoon
to try to find the BLACK TERN reported at Nisqually, no luck there but did
find a WILSON'S PHALAROPE in the main pond on the north side of the trail to
McAllister Creek. Couldn' t find any LAZULI BUNTINGS at their usual
locations. Other interesting birds:
P/B Grebe (with chick)
Gadwall
Wood Duck (with 6 chicks)
1 N. Shoveler (male)
1 G/W Teal (male)
3 Com. Merganser (total of 20 chicks, one had 13)
2 Gr. Yellowlegs
1 Mourning Dove
2 W. Wood-pewee
Willow Flycatcher (now common)
2 Bullock's Oriole

Quick note about my vacation in Wisconsin. I covered almost all of the
state in 7 days with my brother. We ended the trip with 202 species seen.
Highlights were watching both S/T Grouse and G. Prairie-Chicken dancing (not
at same location), doing a county big day with my brother and Jim Williams,
and watching a real midwestern fallout in the back yard of our cabin. Best
Birds:
Broad-winged Hawk (good looks at multiple birds)
Sharp-tailed Grouse
Gr. Prarie-Chicken
Yellow Rail (3 birds calling as we got out of the car during big-day)
Upland Sandpiper (nice looks at a pair just alongside the car)
Ruddy Turnstone (fun to see them far from a jetty)
White-rumped Sandpiper (got them the morning I left, the shorebird migration
is really just starting there)
A. Woodcock
R/N Phalarope
L/Eared Owl
N. Saw-whet Owl
Whip-poor-will
6 species of woodpecker in our cabin yard
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher
Acadian Flycatcher
Alder Flycatcher
G/Crested Flycatcher
White-eyed Vireo
Blue-headed Vireo (at nest)
Sedge Wren (junk bird)
Wood Thrush
32 species of warblers (best being G/winged, N. Parula, Magnolia, B/T Blue,
Blackburnian, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Worm-eating, Connecticut, Hooded,
Canada)
Henslow's Sparrow (in scope!)
Le Conte's Sparrow
N. Sharp-tailed Sparrow (unexpected, at Y. Rail site)
Orchard Oriole
W/W Crossbill
