This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Sunday,
June 1st, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

RARE BIRD ALERTS for ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK and WHITE-TAILED KITE!

The feature birds are HUDSONIAN GODWIT and LAZULI BUNTING.

Sightings for Sunday, June 1st

RARE BIRD ALERT! A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was reported from Colony Farm
in the North West section of the Port Coquitlum side. Nearby was a male
LAZULI BUNTING.

RARE BIRD ALERT! An adult WHITE-TAILED KITE was observed along the Grant
Narrows Dyke Trail in Pitt Meadows. The bird was flushed from a tree top and
was last seen flying towards the Ecological Area where it dropped down out
of sight.

At the Reifel Refuge the HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen on both the morning and
again on the evening hightides in the West Field. Also seen along the west
dyke on the foreshore were 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS and 11 late SNOW GEESE. From
the Westham Island Bridge was a MUTE SWAN.

A 1st year BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was observed at the Maplewood Conservation Area
in North Vancouver.

And a note to local birders. The SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was not relocated
today in the town of Rockport in Skagit County Washington. It may well turn
up here in the coming days so folks should be on the look out!

Sightings for Saturday, May 31st

At Colony Farm was a singing male LAZULI BUNTING seen on a wire near the
community garden. This area is reached by turning right off of the Lougheed
Highway and following Colony Farm Road to the end parking lot.

In Pitt Meadows along Rannie Road there were 2 GRAY CATBIRDS, 1 WESTERN
KINGBIRD, 2 TURKEY VULTURES, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON carrying prey and 1 AMERICAN
BITTERN. Along the Grant Narrows Dyke Trail were 4 GRAY CATBIRDS, 8 EASTERN
KINGBIRDS, 1 GREEN HERON and 12 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS.

The HUDSONIAN GODWIT was again present in the West Field at Reifel on the
evening hightide.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was reported from the area of 208th St and Yorkson Creek
in Langley.
