Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday June 5. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On May 30 a SEDGE WREN was located on the North spit of Coos Bay. It
continues to be seen. Turn off Hwy 101 north of Coos Bay at the Horsfall
Beach exit. Drive to the intersection, turn left onto Transpacific Lane and
drive to the BLM Boat Ramp. A short way past the ramp a sand road runs off
on the right. Park and walk that road to the pink flagging marking the birds
location. Then walk north off the road to the reed-canary grass.

On May 30 a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was at Malheur NWR
Headquarters. A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was there June 1. A female COSTA?S
HUMMINGBIRD was at the Frenchglen Hotel feeder May 28. A BLACKPOLL WARBLER
was at Fields May 30.

The May 31 pelagic trip out of Newport encountered huge flocks of seabirds,
including over 1000 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS, a dozen PARASITIC JAEGERS, 250
BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, a SKUA, and a FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATER.

COMMON NIGHTHAWKS and RED-EYED VIREOS arrived during the week just as the
migration is winding down. On May 31 a MOCKINGBIRD was on the North Spit of
Coos Bay and a WILLET was on Coos Bay. A BAIRD?S SANDPIPER was on the Spit
June 4. On June 1 a RED KNOT was at Seal Rock State park and two MARBLED
GODWITS were at Yaquina Bay.

On June 1 a flock of 26 WHITE PELICANS were flying north over Ridgefield
NWR. On June 4 a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD visited a feeder near St. Helens.
Several BLACK TERNS, a GREAT EGRET, and a CLARK?S GREBE were at Ankeny NWR
May 29. A WHITE-FACED IBIS was at Finley NWR June 1. A lost VEERY was on
Skinners Butte in Eugene May 31. On May 30 nine WHITE PELICANS were at Fern
Ridge Reservoir.

On June 2 a CATBIRD was along Hwy 58 where it crosses the Little Deschutes
River south of Crescent.

That?s it for this week.
