Greetings,

This morning I visited some wildlife places in Douglas County from Daroga to
Bridgeport Bar with a quick side trip up Central Ferry Cyn.

Daroga State Park : Nice look at an adult Gopher Snake in the shade on the
lawn. These snakes are common here but always very exciting to see well.
Also an adult male Northern Flicker feeding in the lawn. This male was
almost a typical bird with red mustaches, salmon underwings and on the tail
but with a thin well defined red crescent on the nape. Our summer flickers
in Washington State show this character very occasionally. I just checked my
field notes and the last ones I saw in WA were two at Confluence SP at
Wenatchee in the summer of 2001.
Perched together on a poplar near the lagoon were a father and son American
Kestrel. The adult had some black barring on the red back and some spotting
on the underparts. The juv had a lot more spotting on the underparts and a
lot more barring on the back.

Central Ferry Cyn: A singing Least Flycatcher in a thick growth of poplars
etc along the Central Ferry Cyn Rd. This is exactly where Ken Knittle had
one at this time last year. The spot is .7 mile from Cranes Rd. Delorme
Atlas page 100, D2. Also two male Calliope Hummingbirds were in the
riparian a little further up this road.

Bridgeport Bar: Delorme Atlas Page 100, D3. Two more singing Least
Flycatchers were at the Wells Wildlife Area on the bar. One was at the
access on Grange Rd at Port Rd. The other was at the access on SR 173 at MP
8.4

Good Birding,
