Sightings for June 7

A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was found on the Vernon Commonage, well N. of its
usual Okanagan breeding range (CS,PG,PB). From Hwy 97 turn W. on Bailey
Road, S. of Vernon. A short distance up Bailey Rd an aspen grove flanks both
sides of the road. The chat was heard and seen on the brushy hillside to the
W. Singing in the same aspen grove was a LEAST FLYCATCHER (CS). Two more
LEAST FLYCATCHERS were heard in the tree farm on Bench Row Road, also on the
Commonage (CS).

Two LEAST FLYCATCHERS were also heard in an aspen grove along the Twin Lakes
Road, a short distance W. of the White Lk Rd turnoff on June 6 (LN).


Sightings for June 5

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was seen along the Twin Lakes Road, near White Lake, in
the South Okanagan (JB). From the White Lk Rd turnoff, continue W. on the
Twin Lakes Road a short distance to some farm fields. The bird was seen in
this area.

A bird fitting the description of a CLARK'S GREBE was seen between Kelowna
and Vernon on Okanagan Lake at Jim Grant Island (GW,m.ob). To view the
island, which is the location of the valley's largest gull colony, go to
Kopje Park in the Carr's Landing area.

In Vernon, a first year male AMERICAN REDSTART was singing in the tree farm
along Bench Row Rd on the Vernon Commonage (GW,m.ob). Also on the Commonage,
CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS, and LAZULI BUNTINGS were numerous (GW,m.ob).

In Kelowna, both VIRGINIA RAILS and SORAS were in the small marsh behind the
St. Charles Garnier Church on Benvoulin Road (GW,m.ob).


Sightings for June 3

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna from 4856
Lakeshore Road (KA,LR). It was present in the morning, but not seen in the
afternoon.
