This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Saturday,
June 7th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature birds are LEAST FLYCATCHER and AMERICAN REDSTART.

Sightings for Saturday, June 7th

Along the Grant Narrows Dyke Trail approximately 200m from the start was a
singing LEAST FLYCATCHER.

At the Maplewood Conservation Area was a singing 1st year male
AMERICAN REDSTART. The bird was singing in trees past the bridge, around
on the left trail and just before the junction with the middle trail. The
bird was on the left hand (water) side. Also in the area were
2 GREEN HERONS.

At Jericho Park an EASTERN KINGBIRD was found in a dead Willow Tree at the
East Pond by the wooden bridge. Also in the park was a singing WILLOW
FLYCATCHER.

In the Fraser Valley at the Cheam Wetlands in Chilliwack was a singing LEAST
FLYCATCHER east of the loop trail sign. Also reported in the area were a
SORA, several BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and many RED-EYED VIREOS.


Friday, June 6th

2 GREAT EGRETS, 2 GRAY CATBIRDS and 25 CASPIAN TERNS were found at the first
bend Rannie Road in Pitt Meadows.

Along the Grant Narrows Dyke Trail were 2 GRAY CATBIRDS, 3 EASTERN
KINGBIRDS, 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS.

At Reifel Refuge the HUDSONIAN GODWIT continues to be seen on the hightides
in the West Field. Also seen from the refuge were 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 3
BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS.
