Greetings Treeters,

A tired but happy group of 11 Tahoma Audubon birders crossed back over to the west side yesterday evening after an excellent tour of the Potholes area of Central Washington. The group was the Tahoma Intermediate Birding Class led by Ken Brown.
Along the way we picked up 133 species with a few surprizes. Five WHITE PELICANS put in an appearance rather late in the season. Four were seen heading south toward Othello over Canal Lake, and one was seen on a pond north of Frenchman Hills Road. We checked out an earlier alert on an ASH - THROATED FLYCATCHER and found him right were he was expected, displaying over a patch of brambles and cottonwoods just east of mile post 24 on the Old Vantage Highway. Another treat was a good number (6 or 7, depending on who was counting) BLACK SWIFTS sighted high overhead up the Gold Creek Canyon just east of the I-90 summit. We also got great close looks at a CLARK'S GREBE at the mouth of Lind Coulee just east of the O'Sullivan Dam. Clear, warm weather throughout and beautiful bright LAZULI BUNTINGS to cheer us on.
