Subject: Possum in a live trap excites the corvids

This morning I awoke to the sound of scolding jays and Crows. Hrmmmp 5:30am.
Blearily followed the sound thinking it might be the return of George the
Owl. Funny, they were all concentrated low this morning. Then I saw a crow
diving on...the live trap? I have been trying to catch a particular gray
squirrel and forgot to unset the empty trap before bed. Inside the trap was
a baby possum, who was cowering as two crow stood on top the trap and were
yelling at it. A whole bunch more (well, 4-5 anyway) plus a couple stellars
jays were hooting it up and swooping around the cage as well. I wonder what
got their dander up over a baby possum? I shooed off the corvids and let the
little guy loose. About 5 minutes later, the corvids were hooting and
hollering down the brush, the logical path of the possum. I have never heard
of them doing this with a cat, why all the hollering over a baby possum?
