You're right, and I wonder if there may be some distortion at
play here. In life, the bird had a pretty ungainly looking
bill, and I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary at the
time.

The second photo on the page is the original of the first.
As you can see, these were shot thru a scope, and I made a
slight rotation (5% clockwise) to the original in addition
to cropping it, etc. Perhaps rotating a jpg is to blame
here!

YBLO's bill, particularly the upper mandible?
