Hello All,
Just a quick note of a few sightings on the 14th. While birding Lyons Ferry Park in SE Franklin Co. I discovered an adult territorial Yellow-breasted Chat out on the first island in the mouth of the Palouse River. This is the first possible breeding individual I have ever found in Franklin Co.. At Palouse Falls S.P. we saw 25+ White-throated Swifts, 1 ad Peregrine Falcon and a pair of nesting Says Phoebes---seemed late for this species to still be on the nest. On friday the 13th we located the first confirmed nesting of Am. Avocets within the city limits of Walla Walla. We saw four fuzzy ,long legged chicks with a very protective parent along Mill Creek behind the only K-Mart in town. MerryLynn almost stepped on a 16" Western Rattlesnake at Wind Dust Park yesterday----so if you bird the area watch your step. The snake was ushered away to safer habitat for all.
Thats it.
Later Mike
