Since I posted my trip report to Robinson Canyon last weekend I've had
several requests for directions. Sorry, while it's a popular birding spot, I
should not have assumed that everyone on Tweeters knew where it was or how
to get there.
>From Interstate 90, take exit 101, marked "Thorp Hwy, Thorp." (The exit is
between Cle Elum and Ellensburg; you are in Kittitas County.) Head south
from the exit, and take the second right, which is Killmore Road. This road
winds around for about 2.5 miles (there are two 90 degree turns), then you
come to Robinson Canyon Road. Turn right on this road, rather than
continuing to the left on Killmore Road. This will take you right into the
canyon. The pavement ends after just under a mile, and you will come to a
gate. It's OK to go through the gate, just make sure you close it behind
you. (FYI, as you're driving into the canyon, the gate will open away from
you.)
The road is blocked about 0.5 mile beyond the gate. Park here and continue
up the road on foot.
