Friday, June 6, 2003, 8:20 a.m. Hi, this is Tom Aversa reporting on a
trip to Eastern Washington yesterday. In Kittitas County, a couple of
interesting birds. Saw that YELLOW-BILLED LOON below the Wanapum Dam.
It's in basic plumage. Up the Vantage Highway, near milepost 24, two
miles west of that, that ASH-THROATED FLYCATHCER seems to be, have taken
up residence there. Also, in Grant County, in the vicinity of Wilson
Creek, a TRI-COLORED BLACKBIRDS spot, off Road 22, apparently there is
only a few TRI-COLORED BLACKBIRDS in there that I can see. Really only
positively identified a couple of males. There were females, that were
probably TRI-COLOREDs also. Thanks.

Saturday, June 7, 2003, 1:35 p.m. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. Today a
bunch of us birded Wind Dust, Lyon's Ferry, and Palouse Falls Parks.
There's very few migrants, the best of which was a REDSTART at Wind
Dust. Also, a Gambel's WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW there and one baby
LONG-EARED OWL with a parent. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

Saturday, June 7, 2003, 7:46 p.m. Hi, this is Steve Mlodinow. This
afternoon Bob Flores, Ryan Shaw and I had a breeding plumaged AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVER at Iowa Beef. Also, two BONAPARTE GULLS there. At the
Walla Walla River Delta there was a COMMON LOON. That's it. Good luck
and good birding.

Wednesday, June 11, 2003, 11:25 p.m. Hi, this is Sam Terry, (206)
329-9038. Birding today in the Skagit Valley at the Whatcom County side
of the county line ponds on Highway 20. I had a first-year male
AMERICAN REDSTART. There was another REDSTART signing in the area.
Also, there were two singing VEERYs. That's it, good luck and good
birding.

Saturday, June 14, 2003, 8:25 a.m. Hello this is Mark Johnston at (253)
639-3862. I'm calling to report an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER at the mouth
of Robinson Canyon. It was spotted in the forest grove right adjacent
to the entrance gate, about 2:00 p.m. on the 13th. Thank you and good
birding.

Sunday, June 15, 2003, 4:21 p.m. This is Michael Fleming, (206)
297-3234. Did some birding this weekend in Eastern Washington,
primarily in the Yakima area. Stopped yesterday, June the 14th, at Fort
Simcoe. There I saw LEWIS WOODPECKERS, ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS and
LAZULI BUNTINGS, then made a quick stop afterwards at Eschbach Park,
just west of Yakima, saw a couple of BANK SWALLOWS. And yesterday
evening stopped by the Toppenish Wildlife Refuge and I saw some WHITE
PELICANS, a GRAY CATBIRD, and a couple GREAT-HORNED OWLS. This morning,
I stopped by the Umtanum Creek Recreation Area and I saw a PRAIRIE
FALCON, some YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, and CHUKAR. Good luck and good
birding.

Wednesday, June 18, 2003, 10:42 a.m. Hello this Russell Rogers, (360)
582-3781, on Monday, June 16th, I saw a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW on Sucia
Island in the San Juan Islands. It was at the east end of Fossil Bay
near the campground, east end of Front Bay, which is adjacent to Fossil
Bay, in the campground there. You need a boat to get to Sucia Island,
so it's not very traceable, but if you are going, it should be an easy
find. Thank you and good birding.
