Interesting selection of ducks on the central pond this afternoon:

1 male lesser scaup
2 male wood ducks
1 female ring-necked duck
2 male northern shovelors
1 male cinnamon teal
4 mallard
an assortment of gadwall

All except the wood ducks were in various states of dishevelment.

It was "encouraging" to see that "ground nesting bird season" has not
proved to be an impediment to the Centre for Urban Horticulture
embarking on large scale mowing of the long grass around the area,
sigh. Perhaps this was an oversight or maybe they thought that with all
the long grass the Canada geese were not getting enough to eat in
advance of the little get-together they have with the Seattle Parks
Department...
