My first record of Olympic Peninsula Purple Martins was a pair feeding newly
fledged young at the boat launch south of Quilcene along Hood Canal in June
of 1992.

I've heard it said that Purple Martins nest at many locations on Hood Canal
but I know that
few specific locations are on record with Washington Fish and Wildlife.
Interestingly, there
is also a reference which indicates that Jill Zarnowitz found Purple Martins
nesting in natural
cavities on the Olympic Peninsula when she was doing her graduate study of
cavity nesting birds
at the U.W. As far as I've been able to tell, all specific locality details
for her observations
have been lost.
