Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I checked a few local locations in the Montesano-Elma area of eastern Grays Harbor Co.,despite the isolated scattered rain showers and wind at times during the day. Our main highlight of the day was a Red-eyed Vireo at the public boat launch along the Chehalis River along S.R.107 south of Montesano, which was first heard actively singing in tall Black Cottonwood trees in the main parking lot near the public restroom, before observed flying across to the other side of the Chehalis River. Perhaps they may be other individual along this region of the Chehalis River, but this species may still remain very local. Our main efforts of the day were searching for dragonflies in which we managed to locate a few species, although weather conditions were quite unpredictable. We checked such locations as the Schouweiler Rd. wetland, portions of the Chehalis River, and Friend's Landing near Montesano. Our most notable observations including the following at selected locations:

Western Grebe
1 lingering bird at the eastern most pond at Vance Creek Co. Park(observed from Hwy.12)

Green Heron
1 flying along Hwy.12 near the Schouweiler Rd. wetland

5 along the Chehalis River along S.R.107(south of Montesano)
6 flying over the Schouweiler Rd. wetland

Pacific-slope Flycatcher

Western Scrub Jay

MacGillivray's Warbler
1 female near the Schouweiler Rd. wetland

Black-headed Grosbeak
1 pair flying over Hwy.12 west of Elma
