Wanted to make some notes from this weekend. On Saturday 4 of us, Joan
and Paul Carson, Nancy Ladenberger and myself ventured to the wilson
creek overlook for Tri-colored blackbirds.
At the overlook we found about 15 male tri-coloreds all feeding in a
farm puddle to the right of the marsh, they would fly between the cliffs
and the puddle, picking up small things off the flooded field. Also at
the site was 3 male Wilson's Phalarope.
Saturday evening there were 4-5 Common Poorwill in Robinson canyon, 2
giving nice looks in the headlights on the road.
On Sunday 8 others joined me on a Kitsap Audubon field trip traveling
from Ellensburg to Vantage. Great looks at most of the shrub-steppe
species and Gray Flycatcher on Beacon Ridge Rd as has been previously
mentined in prior reports.
A couple nice highlights--
Great looks at singing Grasshopper Sparrow at the spot mentioned by
Charlie Wright a few weeks ago on the lower part of Colockum Road.
The pair of Greater Scaup were still present on the No. 81 rd pond.
Below the wanapum dam, 10 white pelicans, great looks and the
yellow-billed loon was present on the grant county side of the river. 3
caspian tern were also on the islands below the dam. 2-3 White-throated
Swift at the Ginkgo overlook.
All told a great weekend.
