Hi Tweets, today I traveled to Ocean Shores to do some birding.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time to spend there. I started the
day at 6:15am at Cyber Lake and ended my trip at the marina at 10:30am. The
weather was great with sunny skies and mild winds. Spotted Towhee and
White-crowned Sparrows were very vocal at almost every location I stopped
at. Overall, a pretty slow day but here are the highlights:

Cyber Lake - Olive-sided Flycatcher (one singing and flycatching)

Jetty - Brown Pelican (about 10 seen flying)
Heermann's Gull (5 on the rocks at the end of the jetty)
Caspian Tern ( 2 on the beach and 1 fly over)
Pigeon Guillemot (5 on the rocks at the end of the jetty and 3 more swimming
along the jetty)

Game Range (via Ocean Shores STP)
Immature Bald Eagle (perched on an old piling)
Northern Shoveler (4 on sewage pond, males with very worn breeding plumage)
Surf Scoter (10 in the channel)
Common Murre (1 in the channel off the east end of the jetty)
Marbled Murrelet (1 swimming and diving along the east end of the jetty)

On Monday, I walked around Vance Creek County Park in the morning and then
took a drive around the Brady Loop complex in the afternoon. No surprises
to report. The Osprey nest at Vance Creek has at least one hatchling in it
now. I scoped it for awhile but didn't ever see any indications of more
than one young. Here's some other highlights:

Western Grebe (still on the first pond)
Green Heron ( 1 fly over)
Turkey Vulture (2 fly over)
Greater Scaup (1 male on pond nearest airport)

Turkey Vulture (1 roosting on a snag and 1 flying overhead)
Red-tailed Hawk (1 calling from a tree)

Keys Rd. Boat Launch
Spotted Sandpiper (1 on gravel bar)
Cliff Swallow (5 flying over the river)
