There is still space available on the July 12 and July 19 pelagic trips out of Westport, Washington. The July 19 trip is a deep water trip-it leaves the dock at 4 a.m. in order to get 50+ miles offshore, which is 15-20 miles farther offshore than a typical trip. July and early August is the best time to find the enigmatic Leach's Storm-Petrel in Washington waters. This species outnumbers the Fork-tailed Storm Petrel by about 9:1 as a breeding species in Washington, but it feeds farther offshore so is encountered much less frequently than Fork-tailed on Westport Seabird trips. This is the first deep water trip in July, and it's hoped that the time spent farther offshore will be productive for Leach's.

Cost for the July 12 trip is $90; the deep water trip on July 19 is $130. For more information on registration, upcoming trips, past trip reports and images of pelagic birds and marine mammals, check out the Westport Seabirds web site at: www.westportseabirds.com.
