Yesterday, Saturday the 28th, I birded the Port Townsend area with my
wife Pipper and Bob Norton from Port Angles. Birding was fairly slow but it
was just great to get out. We had a fly by Tufted Puffin off East Beach
County Park in Port Townsend, and a number of Rhinocerous Auklets off Point Wilson,
perhaps 80+-. The Heermann's Gulls are showing up in the PT area, with
about 20 +- on Point Hudson.
Notable birds at Oak Bay County Park were a lone adult Bonaparte's
Gull and 6 Surf Scoters. At Fort Flagler SP, busy with drums, kites, group
picnics, volleyball, etc., were 3 Harlequin Ducks, and 1 Black Oystercatcher, plus
Pelagic and DC Cormorants.
This morning walking down to get the morning paper, an adult Hairy
Woodpecker working over a dead alder. A new yard bird for me, as well as a year
bird.
All for now, good birding,
