Are Ravens really so unusual in the Seattle area?

Tweets
Becky Barker from the Zoo's Raptor Education Program and I both saw a
Raven on Thursday. I saw it flying east over the Aurora Bridge and Becky
saw it near the University.

Tonight I was playing tennis at the University of WA on the north
campus, and I was startled to hear a raven about 8pm; I nearly dropped
my racket. A moment later I saw the bird fly across the tennis court and
into a thicket in the pine trees on the south end of Hutchinson Hall.
Seconds later it flew south-southeast toward McMahon Hall.

When I was a teenager in Maryland I was playing tennis and I saw a
pileated woodpecker fly across the edge of the courts, a life bird for
me then. At the time I dropped my racket and sprinted into the nearby
woods to get a better look. It was a good day.
