Cascadia Hummingbird Report - 03/03/2003

Female _Selasphorus_ hummingbird began to arrive early last week
with reports from Temecula, CA and Bandon, OR. The subtleties of
sorting Rufous females from Allen?s females leaves these reports at
the genus level. By the end of the week, female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS
were being seen at the mouth of the Columbia River and inland at
Wilderville, OR. Andyes, the females are running early, too.

In flower news, in spite of a few early flowers in a few places,
most Salmonberry (_Rubus spectabilis_) are right on schedule with
open sun plants heading toward a peak in 7-10 days and closed
canopy plants showing only a couple of blossums.
