I already reported here the sighting on Sunday 3/2/03 of an adult male
Rufous Hummingbird at my feeders, and yesterday, 3/3, a female Rufous Hummer
showed up much to the delight of myself and the male. Today I was able to
just sit and enjoy the sight of the two of them interacting...briefly
interrupted by the short-lived appearance of another adult male. There were
several displays in full view of my seat at the window, with the sun shining
on his red gorget and the gold and green colors...just beautiful!

Question: until this male showed up, those feeders were the exclusive
property of at least one adult male and two female Anna's. The Anna's is a
larger bird than the Rufous...is this a case of "dynamite comes in small
packages"?
Did the Rufous shove the Anna's out of the territory?

My second exciting sighting was today out on the game range here in Ocean
Shores: a Great Egret. It may already have been reported by the Sullivans,
if I remember correctly, but it is so out of place to my way of thinking
that I thought I was seeing a white Great Blue Heron. I have seen Great
Egrets in the Sacramento, Ca. area but did not expect to see them up here,
so my mind refused to concede this as one of them. I took photos, but my 210
zoom lens is sadly lacking.
