Thanks to all who responded to my call for Brant sightings. I found them
yesterday, at Semiahmoo....right where they're supposed to be for next
month's Brant Festival! That's April 12-13 at the Semiahmoo Resort.
I estimated over 1,200 in large flocks that extended almost the entire length
of the spit.
Given the fact that there are plans afoot to further develop the spit for
additional condos, the Brant are proof-positive that those condos must NOT
happen. The relatively undisturbed stretches of gravel beaches on the spit
are essential to maintaining the Brant population.

We need the Brant and we certainly do NOT need more condos.
