Hi Tweeters,

I've been birding my usual areas around Elma this week. Its been a mixed bag as far as the weather goes this week. I stayed dry on Tuesday and Thursday, but got a little wet this morning. Here's the hilights:

Tuesday, March 4 - Wenzel Slough Rd.
Green-winged Teal, Mallard, 2 mature Bald Eagles (one on nest), 1 immature Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Osprey (first sighting in this area - it was perched on the nest snag located in the Chehalis Wildlife area that is viewable from Wenzel Slough Rd.), Northern Harrier, Great Blue Heron, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Belted Kingfisher, Dark-eyed Junco, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Song Sparrow, Red-winged Blackbird

Later that day along Brady Loop Rd.
2 Red-tailed Hawks, Northern Harrier, Green-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler, 30+ Mourning Doves, and 20+ Tree Swallows

Thursday, March 6 - Brady Loop Rd.
Rough-legged Hawk (I had a great view of this hawk), Mature Bald Eagle, and more Tree Swallows

Saturday, March 8 - Vance Creek County Park
1 Western Grebe, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, 2 Double-crested Cormorants, Lesser Scaup, American Coot, Northern Flicker

After the park, I drove down Wenzel Slough Rd. again and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I haven't been able to locate the White-tailed Kite that the Sullivan's spotted this past week yet. Almost forgot, after leaving my house my first birds of the day were 2 Western Scrub Jays on wires along 11th Ave in downtown Elma.

Good birding,
