Dear Tweeters,
When I lived in Concrete, I'd get Varied Thrushes at my feeder in the winter, usually during bad weather spells. They loved grease. I would save all the old grease (from bacon and other meats) in a tin can in the refrigerator. Come winter, I'd smear it on a small log into which I'd drilled inch-wide holes. Then I'd put birdseed all over the grease. The Varied Thrushes loved that concoction. So did the Steller's Jays and chickadees.
