Mon 3/3 11:32AM Hi, this is Bill Tweit, 360 754 7098 reporting on Tom Schooley
and my birding in the Chehalis Valley near Elma yesterday, Saturday, March
1. In a very sparrow-y weedy field about 4/10 of a mile north of the
Chelhalis River bridge, which is about 7/10 of a mile south of the junction of
Wakefield and Wenzel slough road, we had a Spizella sparrow that showed marks
of both a CLAY COLORED and CHIPPIng: the grey rump of a CHIPPIE, face pattern
including pale lores of a CLAY COLOR. So either a clay-color with an aberrant
rump or a hybrid. We also had three SWAMP SPARROWS and 4 WHITE THROATED
SPARROWS in that field as well. That's it, good luck and good birding.
