Hello Jo,

Two years ago we stayed at Ramsey Canyon Inn, a few miles south of Sierra Vista, and can attest to some nice people, shelves of birding books, and a good trail up the creek to the ridge. We also saw birds on the river flats but had to turn back from the Coronado National Forest because the road wasn't great and it was early February.

The website for Ramsey Canyon, a Nature Conservancy site, is http://www.ramseycanyoninn.com/
There was a gift shop there that had some nice ID books, too.

Hope this helps. You can email me if you want some more information. My two favorite bird sightings there were the Bridled Titmouse and a small flock of Pyrrhuloxia. The Pyrrhuloxia (which somebody said could be called the Gray Cardinal much more easily) were at the flats, the titmouse in the trees by Ramsey Canyon. I'm sure there were PLENTY of birds that we didn't see, being worse than total novices.

There was also a man at R.C. who would take people bird-watching for, I'm sure, a fee.

Have a super time,
Patty Kennedy

Greets --
I am thinking about driving to SE Arizona for a two or three week birding trip. I am primarily interested in 'must see' places in Arizona but also birding stops (wildlife refuges, etc.) enroute. I am considering the first two weeks of April/last week of March, hoping to avoid high elevation places if snow storms are a variable.
In SE AZ, can anyone recommend places to stay that are friendly to birders and near interesting places to wander around, binoculars at the ready? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
