Hi Tweeters,
Last week I asked if Stellar's Jay could mimic Varied Thrush and someone kindly pointed that it was unlikely. So in the outdoor shower yesterday I went to go investigate the Varied Thrush whistle I have been hearing. It took about 10 minutes for it to show up and start whistling again. I am glad I went out to look even though I was nearly soaked through. This is a great bird for my little area. The tree mix is about 80 to 90% deciduous so I am a little surprised to see them. This is a bird I found out what it was, many years after I first heard them. I used to do some hiking in the "real" woods and would hear that odd whistle on one side of me to be answered far away on the other side and never knew whether it was bird or beast that made the whistle.
