This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Sunday,
March 9th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Featured bird is GLAUCOUS GULL.

Sightings for Sunday, March 9th

In Delta, at Hornby Drive and 96th Street was a third winter GLAUCOUS GULL.

At Blackie's Spit in Surrey were 25 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS. Nearby, at Mud
Bay Road and 40th Avenue were 3 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS.

Out of town, the highlight of the Squamish Estuary bird count was a
GREAT-HORNED OWL.

In a late report from Port Moody, two SPOTTED SANDPIPERS were seen flying
over Burrard Inlet on March 8th.

There were no reports for March 7th and 8th

Thursday, March 6th

At Elgin Heritage Park in South Surrey were 2 GREEN-WINGED TEALS of the
Eurasian subspecies.

At 176th Street and 64th Avenue in Cloverdale were 2 OSPREYS.

Wednesday, March 5th

The AMERICAN AVOCET was once again at Beach Grove Lagoon in Tsawwassen.

There were no reports for March 4th

Monday, March 3rd

A singing PACIFIC SLOPE FLYCATCHER was in the 4800 block of Elkview Road
in Chilliwack.

Sunday, March 2nd

An adult ICELAND GULL and a first winter ICELAND GULL were both at the
Delta landfill on March 1st.

At Maplewood Conservation Area was the SPOTTED SANDPIPER.

At Lost Lagoon, on the south side, was an ELLIOTT'S LAUGHING THRUSH. This
Asian species is an escaped bird, but has been reported by numerous people
over the past few months.
