Readers,

I hate to sound redundant, but the spectacle at Semiahmoo is still at a fever
pitch, what with another 1,000+ loon afternoon. The rain was coming down in
buckets and the rafts of loons (mostly Pacific) were coursing in and out of
the channel between the spit and Blaine harbor; some were feeding right off
the front (water side) lawn of the resort!
There are also huge numbers of Red-breasted Mergansers, scoters, Buffleheads,
Double-crested and Pelagic Cormorants, and hundreds of attendant gulls.
Today, however, there was not a Brant in sight.
In 26 years of birding in this area, I have never seen as many birds in the
Drayton Harbor/Semiahmoo Bay area as there are right now. Stay tuned!
