From: Range Bayer - rbayer at orednet.org

Hi,

On Feb. 28, Wildlife Services released their "Pre-Decisional
Environmental Assessment: "Piscivorous Bird Damage Management for the
Protection of Juvenile Salmonids on the Mid-Columbia River." It is
141 pages long plus unnumbered appendices.

This EA is for Wildlife Services' bird control at the Wells,
Rocky Reach, Rock Island, Wanapum, and Priest Rapids dams owned by the
Chelan, Douglas, and Grant County Public Utility Districts as well as for
the Wells and Priest Rapids hatcheries in the mid-Columbia Basin.

It is not available on the Internet. If you have not received a
copy and are interested, contact:

Written comments to Mr. Linnell about this EA must be received by
April 7.

Also on Feb. 28, I published "Review: Bird Predation of Juvenile
Salmonids and Management of Birds Near 14 Columbia Basin Dams. Yaquina
Studies in Natural History No. 10." A HTML version is available for
free at:

http://www.orednet.org/salmon/gullprd.htm (all lower case letters)

Although my review includes more dams than are in the Wildlife
Services' EA, it covers the same issues about bird predation and management.

I am hoping to have comments specifically about the Wildife Services'
EA available by March 20 at:

http://www.orednet.org/salmon/salmon.htm#ws-dams (all lower case letters)

Cheers!
