Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 13. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On March 10 a male PHAINOPEPLA was reported from Milo, east of Canyonville.
The VERMILION FLYCATCHER is still at the Tukwila Golf Course in Woodburn. A
male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD was seen March 8 in South Beach near Newport.

Large numbers of HERRING GULLS continue to be seen along the coast. The
spring migrations are increasing with flocks of TREE SWALLOWS and TURKEY
VULTURES being reported during the week.

On March 6 a WHITE-TAILED KITE was at Coon Point on Sauvie Island, but it
apparently did not stay. Over 1000 CRANES are now on the Island and a good
sized flock of SNOW GEESE is still on the east side of the Island. By March
8 two SAY'S PHOEBES were at Oaks Bottom in southeast Portland.

On March 7, 43,000 SNOW/ROSS'S GEESE and 1600 TUNDRA SWANS were at Summer
Lake. Thousands of the white geese are also at Malheur NWR. On March 7 a
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, and CINNAMON
TEAL were on the Refuge.

On March 8 a EURASIAN WIGEON, 225 TUNDRA SWANS, and 28 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
were in the Grande Ronde Valley near Alicel. On March 9, a very out of place
LESSER GOLDFINCH was in Cove and has remained.

Thats it for this week.
