Tweeters and Birdchatters:

Last week I observed and photographed a crow with a malformed beak. I have
placed some photos on my aol webspace for you to view (url given below). It
was a low-light and rainy day so I had taken only 200 speed film and a short
lens with me, but was still able to get some reasonably clear photos.

Do any of you Corvid researchers/experts/enthusiast know what causes such an
abnormality? What is the frequency of occurrance? Can anything be done to
help this individual, if it could be located again. I will be happy to send
high resolution scans of the slides (on CD with a copyright release) for
documentation purposes to any researcher who might find them useful. They
will be a bit better than the low resolution web files.

I also placed some images of a normal individual enjoying peanuts and corn
kernels from the seeds I had scattered for the "beach birds." The gulls get
pieces of whole-grain bread :-) :-) :-).

Thanks and Regards, Judy
