Many thanks to all those who sent directions to where the Sandhill Cranes
might be seen this weekend in E WA. Our group will be birding in the Crab
Creek WLA which is east of Beverly, and will then continue east on Lower
Crab Creek Rd which is south of hwy 26. Near the town of Smyrna a person
reports many Sandhills in a private hunting area past the RR bridge past the
town. He sees them there late in the day. He reports good views along the
road or from above on the big hills to the right.
If we don't see them there, we'll drive farther east, and then north on
Corfu Rd to hwy 26. Then east 2 miles to D SE. North on D SE almost 2
miles. East on 15.1 and on out to the overlook above Royal Lake. There are
supposed to be cranes in the fields out there and many ducks on the lake.
That area is called Royal Slope. It is about half way between Royal City
and Othello. See DeLorme pg 52-53.
Thanks, everyone for all the good Sandhill Crane information.
Gratefully yours, Carol Schulz
