Hi all . . .
I've got a rare 2-day mind-clearing getaway on tap this weekend and am eager
to explore good birding spots in areas I've never been to in northeast
Washington. Consider the target area to be north of Rt 2 and east of Rt.
97, though the northern half of that area is preferable to help keep travel
time in check. I intend to stay in Washington, though more time would be
nice to make bits of Canada feasible. I'm trying to stay focused so I don't
feel rushed in any one spot.
Short hikes ok (under a couple of hours). I have 4WD vehicle with
reasonably high clearance and off-road suspension.
Of particular interest:
Northern Goshawk
Prairie Falcon
Spruce Grouse
Sage Grouse (where specifically is the Leahy Junction lek?)
Sharp-tailed Grouse
Barred Owl
Snowy Owl
Great Gray Owl
Northern Pygmy-Owl
Boreal Owl
Northern Saw-whet Owl
Black-backed Woodpecker
Boreal Chickadee
Pygmy Nuthatch
Bohemian Waxwing
American Tree Sparrow
Lapland Longspur
Pine Grosbeak
Rosy Finch
Thanks in advance. I'll be happy to summarize and share what I learn and
see.
