This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for Sunday,
March 16th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

Sightings for March 16th

At the mouth of Little Campbell River in South Surrey was a Eurasian
GREEN-WINGED TEAL.

At Iona were one NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, 10 VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, 6
TREE SWALLOWS, 5 BARN SWALLOWS and 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS.

The two LONG-EARED OWLS were at Terra Nova in Richmond.

A RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was at Colony Farm in Port Coquitlam.

In a late report for March 14th, there was an AMERICAN AVOCET near King
George Highway at Serpentine Fen in Surrey.

Sightings for March 15th

Early spring migration of many bird species is evident with 3 TREE SWALLOWS
being seen at Iona on the 14th. On March 15th, there were 6 VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOWS over the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex and a RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD near
41st and Dunbar in Vancouver.

Near Lougheed Mall in Burnaby was a PILEATED WOODPECKER.

At Terra Nova in Richmond were 2 LONG-EARED OWLS and a GREAT-HORNED OWL.

Seen from Lighthouse Marine Park in Point Roberts were several BRANDT'S
CORMORANTS.

There were no reports on March 14th

Sightings for March 13th

In Vancouver, at the intersection of 2nd and Ontario, a juvenile NORTHERN
GOSHAWK was seen hunting ROCK DOVES.

At Beach Grove in Tsawwassen were the AMERICAN AVOCET and 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS.
