Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 20. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

OnMarch 16 a FRIGATEBIRD was seen at Moolach Beach north of Newport. On
March 18 one was at the mouth of the sixes River south of Cape Arago. It was
last seen flying south. At least one of the wintering RUFFS is still at
Stewart Pond in Eugene.

The first wave of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS entered the state during the week.
Migrant HARRIERS were passing the Fernhill wetlands March 13. At least 19
GREAT EGRETS are still in the Fernhill area.

On March 13 over 900 BLACK SCOTERS, 340 PIGEON GUILLEMOTS, and 180
KITTIWAKES were at Boiler Bay. On March 15 a ROCK SANDPIPER was on Barview
Jetty at Tillamook Bay. The SURFBIRDS that day were in molt with many
showing bright plumages.

BITTERNS, VIRGINIA RAILS, and SORAS are now being reported from Cedar Canyon
Marsh west of Banks. An EMPEROR GOOSE is now being seen with the goose
flocks west of Amity, mainly along and around Briedwell Road. On March 18 a
GREATER SCAUP was at the Dayton Sewage Ponds.

A male COSTA?S HUMMINGBIRD is now coming to a feeder near Grants Pass.

On March 16 a male HARLEQUIN DUCK was with goldeneyes at the mouth of the
Deschutes River.
