Hi, Tweets

Spring has started, along with more turkey vulture reports, so this will be
the final "winter" report, just edging into spring by a few days. Turkey
vultures have been on the move for over a month now and some seem to have
reached north to their nesting spots in places like Quadra Island, etc.
Keep on the lookout for small flocks heading north; late March through
April should see some greater numbers. Some cross in the spring, although
in much smaller numbers, from the same stretch of northern Olympic
coastline that we monitor in the fall.

Turkey vultures reported in Washington, British Columbia, and Oregon
through late March, 2003:

09 -- 1 circling out over the water west of Deception Pass
12 -- 6 over Cape George, Port Townsend
13 -- OBOL reported "turkey vultures - spring migrations are increasing"
14 -- 1 on the west side of Whidbey Island; 1 in northern Grant County; 3
over Cape George, Port Townsend
15 -- 1 at Marlin-Krupp; 4 on Orcas Island
16 -- 1 adult soaring over Guemes Island; 2 near Tokeland; 4 near the Julia
Butler Hansen refuge; 8 kettling over the highway near the Cowlitz County
line on the Columbia River; 1 near Longview; 2 flying high west of Raymond
20 -- 2 on Quadra Island, B.C.; 5 just south of Pender Harbour, B.C.; 3 at
Rathtrevor Beach, B.C.
22 -- 1 over Eagle Harbor, Bainbridge; 1 near Prairie Ridge; 2 at
Lantzville, B.C.
23 -- 1 over the sewage ponds just northwest of Port Townsend; 1 east of
Olympia meandering north; 1 west of Othello; 1 in Tillamook County, Oregon;
1 at Easton (they're back!!); 1 over Mount Seymour Parkway, North
Vancouver, B.C.
24 -- 5 circling over the east end of Warden Lake, Seeps Lake Wildlife
Area; 1 over Crab Creek; 2 over the Fir Island Game Range; 3 huddled in a
corner on the Samish Flats (?!); 1 along Hwy 8 at McCleary

Thanks so much for including turkey vultures in your birding reports - I
read everything! Good birding this spring.

Cheers, Diann
