My hubbie and I fly a lot, too, and the obstacles are different in every airport, every
airline and every destination. I never use curbside - always take bags to the counter.
Sometimes the bags are checked in sight - Hawaii was very lax about this. I carry
ZIP lock ties and hand them to the checkers and request that they put them on after
they have inspected the bag. I usually hang around and encourage them.
If using hardside bags, we ask them to twirl the combination lock which will at least
keep the bag together should the latches fly open.
Best to go EXTRA early for your flight. If you beat the rush, you will have a better
chance of talking them into "locking" your bag. Clarice Clark
